BOOKER THE LIBRARY BAT

This “humorous tale” (Kirkus Reviews) is the first in a picture book series about Booker, a book-loving bat ,and his buddies as they protect their library home.

Booker reports for duty as the newest guard at the Joanina Library in Coimbra, Portugal. His job is to fly through the stacks at night, gobbling down bugs that might eat the 200,000 antique leather books. There’s one problem: how will he fit in with the other guards? They’re so cool and confident, and what if they don’t like him?

But when Booker spots a human attempting to steal pages from a valuable book, he summons his courage and swoops in with a plan to save the day!

The Olphabet

The letter "O" wants a new spot in the alphabet. This clever story told by "O" helps little ones identify and remember the order of letters in the alphabet.

The letter "O" has had it with always being in the middle! So she imagines moving, instead, to the head of the line. Enough with the alphabet--they'll call it the olphabet! While being first has its obvious perks, "O" begins to realize that much would also be lost, including friends. After going from "A" to "Z," "O" will find the right place to be.

What was the bombing of hiroshima?

By August 1945, World War II was over in Europe, but the fighting continued between American forces and the Japanese, who were losing but determined to fight till the bitter end. And so it fell to a new President, Harry S. Truman, to make the fateful decision to drop two atomic bombs–one on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki–and bring the war to rapid close.

Now, even seventy years later, can anyone know if this was the right choice? In a thoughtful account of these history-changing events, Jess Brallier explains the leadup to the bombing, its terrible aftermath, and how the threat of atomic war has colored world events since.
